What Kind of Conservative are You? Find Out Now!

Any American who passed their sixth grade history class knows fully-well there are different factions or caucuses within a political party. The republican party is no exception. The greatest political battle of conservatives tend to be between the more moderate and the more extreme conservatives within the party. Interestingly enough, they often belong to the same faction of republicanism, only to argue about who is "doing conservative better." Of course, there are plenty more factions as well. Through the course of recent events, new light has been shined upon the broken and heavily faceted republican party within Congress. So we decided to put together the ultimate guide for determining which part of the grand old gang you sit with.

Major Factions:

Neoconservatives (NeoCons) NeoCons have developed out of the relatively new political stances which have been taken in the republican party. Neoconservatism is the most popular conservative ideology in the United States today and primarily dominates the day to day platform of the party. Still, some NeoCons emphasize certain aspects of their philosophy more than others, in turn, they can often see themselves disagreeing with each other for not being "neoconservative enough," giving rise to terms such as "moderate" and "RINO." If you support a free-market, interventionist foreign policy, Israel, global trade, centralized government, traditional marriage, and unborn life, you are a NeoCon! Notable NeoCons:
  • George H. W. Bush
  • George W. Bush
  • Jeb Bush
  • Ben Carson
  • Carly Fiorina
  • John Kasich
  • John McCain
  • Richard Nixon
  • Ronald Reagan
  • Mitt Romney
  • Marco Rubio
  • Paul Ryan
Paleoconservatives (PaleoCons) PaleoCons, as their name suggests, are attributed to old conservatism, and by old, we mean very old. Paleoconservatism can trace its roots all the way back to Edmund Burke, the founder of conservatism. PaleoCons claim to be the legitimate heir to the republican party and dismiss all others as following a perverted doctrine of conservatism. As such, PaleoCons have created their own political party, the Constitution Party. If you support a free-market, non-interventionist foreign policy (even with regards to Israel), self-sufficiency instead of global trade, a decentralized government, a halt to immigration (especially non-European), traditional marriage, and unborn life, you are a PaleoCon! Notable PaleoCons:
  • Patrick Buchanan
  • John James Duncan
  • Virgil Goode
  • Walter B. Jones
  • Russel Kirk
  • Howard Phillips
  • Phillis Schlaffly
  • Tom Tancredo
  • Donald Trump
Libertarians Libertarians are a generally recent invention within the conservative party as well. Libertarianism follows the objectivist philosophy crafted by Ayn Rand. Libertarians are the hybrids of the republican party, and as such, are often not even grouped within the same categories. Like NeoCons, libertarians can often get into disagreements with one another, simply because another libertarian may not be "libertarian enough." Occasionally PaleoCons are confused with libertarians, but the easiest way to tell them apart is to determine where they stand on social issues, such as gay marriage and abortion. If you support a free-market, non-interventionist foreign policy (even with regards to Israel), self-sufficiency instead of global trade, a decentralized government, the legalization of certain drugs, non-traditional marriage, and are willing to allow abortions, you are a libertarian! Notable Libertarians:
  • Ron Paul
  • Rand Paul
  • Ayn Rand

Single Issue Factions:

Log Cabin Republicans- Gay Marriage Log Cabiners are republicans affiliated with NeoCons who are in favor of non-traditional marriage. These republicans heavily support gay marriage and are critical of those who do not. Notable Member:
  • Gregory T. Angelo
Crunchy Conservatives- Environmentalism Crunchy Conservatives are republicans affiliated with any major faction, yet heavily support ecologically-friendly policies to ensure the longevity of the planet. They believe in environmental protection and cautious silviculture practices. Notable Member:
  • Gale A. Norton
The Religious Right- Traditional Marriage, School Prayer, Abstinence, and Creationism The Religious Right is the genuine antithesis of the Log Cabin. This group votes almost exclusively to far-right candidates who are willing to support the integration of Christian doctrine into government policy. This integration is almost always seen within public school settings, especially through mandated prayer, creationist teaching, and abstinence only teaching. Notable Members:
  • Ted Cruz
  • Louie Gohmert
Bioconservatives- Bio-Ethics Bioconservatives are a unique group of voters who, either out of principle or religion, do not support genetic engineering. From stem cells, to cloning, all scientific experiments "playing with life" are an assault on its sanctity. No notable members Ethnoconservatives- Immigration Regulation We just coined the term here today for the first time. EthnoCons are conservatives who vote for their candidates based solely on how well they will secure the border and protect current culture and social order. These conservatives are also called Cultural Conservatives, but we like the name we made more. No notable members InstaConservatives- Social Media Here's another term we just made up. In today's world of fast-paced social media and internet access, most people do not have the time or desire to follow politics. These low-informed voters make their decisions on soundbites or appearances. These voters will get the only information about the world, let alone the government, from what they see on their Instagram feed. Notable Member:
  • Most Millenials #lamegeneration #sorrytobeinit #ohwell
